Messe München is taking a sustainable path
In an interview with Klaus Dittrich from "Forum Nachhaltig Wirtschaften" it becomes clear that trade fairs are also sustainable. Messe München is a pioneer in this respect, according to the Chairman of the Management Board Messe München . In doing so, the company not only supports targeted measures and projects in the area of sustainability, but above all wants to set an example and strengthen responsible action in society.
Creating international exchange
The Messe München uses its reach in the best possible way to encourage other trade fair organisers to imitate and participate. In doing so, it can, for example, make use of the leading international trade fairs, such as IFAT (World's Leading Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Waste and Raw Materials Management), in order to strengthen the exchange of information and ideas internationally. Klaus Dittrich, Chairman of the Management Board, is convinced that change can only be achieved if we work together beyond our own borders.

Messe München plans sustainability already during construction
As an event location and organizer, the Messe München but has not only started to organise sustainable events in the last few years. Specific measures and sustainable planning in advance ensure an environmentally conscious approach to events. For example, there is a green area of 220,000 square metres on the exhibition grounds, with approx. 2,500 trees and 35,000 square metres of green roofs. In addition, the outside areas of the halls are all greened. A photovoltaic system on the roofs supports the power supply, allowing guests and exhibitors to charge electricity free of charge at over 50 charging stations. New halls being built on the site will be heated with district heating, which is obtained from geothermal energy.
Sustainable implementation of trade fair days
But it is not only as a venue that the Messe München Having found its sustainable approach, it also tries to implement event days in the most environmentally friendly way possible. Of course, environmental compatibility is a difficult issue at trade fairs, which only last a few days at a time and often take place under extreme time pressure. For this reason, particular emphasis is placed on environmentally friendly waste disposal via recycling. However, the subject has already reached some stand builders, so that at some fairs, such as IFAT, recyclable and reusable stand components are already being used. Many leading world trade fairs have adapted their Code of Conduct and defined guidelines for stand construction, advertising materials and partnerships with service providers.
