Sustainability thoughts from the rapper scene
The fact that hip-hop is not just gangster rap, but also means political responsibility, is increasingly shown in Germany by famous and socially committed rappers like Samy Deluxe, Kool Savas or Marteria, aka Marsimoto, aka Marten Laciny.
Marten Laciny has long been known in the rap scene as someone who often deals with nature, climate and politics; more than many of his colleagues. Since 2018, Marteria has increasingly collaborated with German-American rapper Casper. As a rap team, the two artists clearly stand out from the vast majority of the German rap scene. They are political, critical and distance themselves from the musical confrontations among rappers, glorification of violence and drug use.
Marteria - Commerce is not everything!
In addition to his successful rap career Marteria also has a number of social commitments to his name. He not only stands up strongly against the right and played at the "Wir sind mehr" concert in Chemnitz, he is also the main sponsor of the Rostock beach soccer club. He also tackles the growing problem of ocean plastic with the fashion label GreenBerlin and produces sustainable fashion collections. "We are GreenBerlin. This is our first step."
Favourite solo artist - "Anti-Echo" award for pop culture
In 2017, Marteria received the "Favourite Solo Artist" award at the Preis für Popkultur awards ceremony. The Prize for Pop Culture is an alternative to the traditional music prizes in Germany and aims to convince with more fairness, talent and transparency.
Commercial success is just as irrelevant for the award as relationships or industry connections. Since 2016, the Prize for Pop Culture has been awarded annually for outstanding merits and achievements in various areas of pop culture.
