Stefan Lohmann Live Entertainment Expert and founder of Sustainable Event Solutions welcomes the decision of the Minister of State for Culture and Media to set up a working group for more climate protection and sustainability in museums. "But please don't just talk, but take action now, because the solutions are already there".
Initiative for more climate protection and sustainability in museums
The German Museums Association is planning to set up a working group. It is to develop innovative strategies for the climate-friendly operation of museums.

However, as an expert on sustainability in the event industry, Lohmann also points out that time is pressing:
"There has been a lot of talk about sustainability in the event and culture industry, but far too little has been done so far. That must finally change now!
Which steps for more climate protection and sustainability are sensible now?
You don't need a working group to take the first steps that make a big difference and even reduce costs; everyone can switch to real green electricity and implement an energy-saving management system. This immediately reduces CO2 emissions and directly promotes the expansion of renewable energy sources. The costs for compensation are also eliminated.
The same applies to the implementation of a sustainability management system, waste management system and communication with visitors. Because they should be encouraged to use public transport. Tickets should be combined with public transport. These are all simple measures with a huge effect, because the journey of the guests causes the highest share of CO2 emissions.
All these simple tasks reduce CO2 emissions and at the same time save costs and thus tax money. You don't need a working group for this, you just need the will to change.
How much CO2 would Germany save if all public buildings, administration, culture, museums, theatres etc. were to switch to genuine green electricity?
A state that wants to become climate-neutral should not only look at what others can do, but first use the levers that are easy to implement.
This is also part of our advice for a sustainability strategy for companies and event organisers and artists. Because sustainability not only ensures that climate goals can be achieved. Sustainability management is also always quality management - it reduces costs and increases efficiency.
Nevertheless, I find the working group useful to exchange further possibilities and to inspire each other, but please don't just talk again. It's about taking action now.
